CERT within the NRG
Central Marin Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is part of FEMA's National CERT Program.
Central Marin CERT is an organization of trained volunteers who are mobilized by the Central Marin Fire Department if needed to supplement professional first responders in a major disaster. CERT members are trained to size up a situation, do light search and rescue, locate and turn off utilities, if needed, extinguish small fires, triage and treat injuries, gather resources, and provide comfort. Typically, CERT volunteers first ensure the safety of their family and neighbors, then they proceed to the designated CERT staging area for assignments. Presently, in Corte Madera, CERT has staging areas (CERT red trailers) in the Corte Madera Town Center parking lot and behind the Cove School. |
However, CERT has provided the following rules for CERT members who want to mobilize locally within their own NRG or neighborhood community. If five CERT members proceed to their NRG's Incident Command, those members are allowed to self-activate at that location and service the needs of their NRG community.
NRG Incident Command ["IC"] protocols, sample policies and forms are available under the Tab: Training Materials/Incident Command or by clicking here. Encourage your NRG volunteers to get additional first aid or search and rescue training. Recruit strong numbers for your IC team for redundancy.
CERT's 18-hour, two day training can be found on the readymarin.org/cert or by clicking here.
